Apple Valley Woman Charged In Fatal Crash Caused By Cell Phone

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) --A 29-year-old woman will face criminal charges for a fatal crash in Apple Valley last April which killed a 66-year-old man.

According to the Dakota County Attorney's office, Amanda Leanna Schlachter of Apple Valley was charged Wednesday with one count of criminal vehicular homicide and three counts of criminal vehicular operation resulting in substantial bodily harm in connection with a crash on April 6, 2013.

Schlachter was transporting residents of a group home in a Dodge minivan when she ran a red light while dialing her cell phone, and then hit another vehicle at about 2:45 p.m.

The minivan rolled onto its side before hitting another vehicle. Frank Sundboom, one of Schlachter's passengers, was seriously injured and later died at Hennepin County Medical Center.

Schlachter and three other adults in the minivan survived with serious injuries. One other passenger suffered minor injuries.

She will make her first court appearance sometime in April.
