Spring Snowstorm Snarls Traffic, Dampens Mood
MINNEAPOLIS (AP/WCCO) -- Snow and ice-covered roads added extra time to the morning commute in the Twin Cities, and likely a few extra layers of grumpypants to everyone's casual Friday wear.
Forecasters say about 6 to 7 inches of snow fell in the metro area overnight, with greater amounts north and west. Hutchinson in McLeod County is dealing with 10 inches of fresh snow.
The Minnesota State Patrol said that between 5 a.m. and about 9:30 a.m. Friday, they responded to 61 crashes statewide and 131 vehicles off the road. Of those, 26 crashes and 75 spinouts were within the Twin Cities metro area.
Some schools are taking the day off, including Annandale, Forest Lake and Maple Lake. Many others have a delayed start because of the difficult driving conditions.
The National Weather Service issued a winter storm warning for eastern and southern Minnesota until mid-morning, when the snow was predicted to trail off.
