Angler Catches State Record White Bass On Vadnais Lake

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – Kanchic Yang of St. Paul had a reason to celebrate after reeling in a state record catch earlier this month.

Yang was on Vadnais Lake in Ramsey County on Oct. 10 when he caught a state record white bass, according to the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources. He was fishing with a minnow and eight pound test line when he reeled in the fish. It was measured at 4 pounds, 8 ounces and was 20 inches long with a girth of 16 inches.

It beat the previous state record of 4 pounds, 2 ounces, which was set back in 2004.

DNR officials say white bass are native to Minnesota and are usually found in major rivers and some lakes in the Twin Cities metro. The DNR released about 5,000 white bass in the summer into Lake Phalen.
