Baby, woman injured in Andover house fire

Andover house fire injures mom, baby

A woman and a baby were hospitalized Monday morning after a house fire in Andover, Minnesota.

According to Andover Fire Chief Dennis Jones, first responders from several agencies were called to the home on Navajo Street Northwest around 7 a.m.

Some first responders were seen rushing into the home without protective gear, with cews using a ladder to get into the home's nursery and rescue the baby.

Jones said they rendered first aid to the baby and mother before they were taken to the hospital.

"Without having transported the patients personally, (the woman) was alert, oriented and conscious. The baby was breathing," Jones said. "It was just a little baby."

The victims are being treated at Mercy Hospital in Coon Rapids, where both are listed in stable condition.

There was no hose line to the house so crews were trucking water into the area, Jones said.

The state fire marshal is leading the investigation, and the home is likely a total loss.
