Officials: Human Error To Blame For Alma, Wis. Train Derailment
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Investigators now say human error is to blame for a train derailment that dumped thousands of gallons of ethanol into the Mississippi River months ago.
It happened in November just north of Alma, Wis. BNSF officials say the train operator applied the dynamic brakes too quickly, causing 25 cars to go off the tracks. The derailment spilled more than 20,000 gallons of ethanol into the river and caused $2.1 million in damage to the rail equipment and track.
BNSF is still investigating the derailment.
