Man Rescued After Sailboat Overturns On Albert Lea Lake

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- A man had to be rescued after his sailboat overturned on a southern Minnesota lake Sunday night, according to the Albert Lea Police Department.

Authorities responded at about 6:30 p.m. to a report of an overturned sailboat on Fountain Lake. A caller also reported an adult male in the water yelling for help.

When emergency responders arrived, they found a 54-year-old Albert Lea man in the water. He was trying to swim to shore from the overturned sailboat, but became exhausted. He was wearing a flotation device.

A kayaker in the area heard the man's calls for help and paddled to him. The man clung to her kayak, and she got him to shore, were paramedics and officers were waiting. The man was transported to Mayo Clinic Health Systems of Albert Lea for treatment.
