Springs Joins Gophers As Graduate Transfer From Milwaukee

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Milwaukee guard Akeem Springs has joined Minnesota this season as a graduate transfer.

The Gophers on Tuesday announced the addition of Springs, who will be eligible to play immediately as a senior and is on track for a degree at Milwaukee. Springs, who is from Waukegan, Illinois, averaged 13.2 points, 5.3 rebounds and 31.9 minutes per game in the 2015-16 season for the Panthers while shooting 49 percent from the field.

Springs played two years at Milwaukee. He started his college career at Northern Illinois.

Springs will be one of six newcomers on Minnesota's roster in the fall, joining freshmen Amir Coffey, Michael Hurt and Eric Curry and transfers Reggie Lynch and Davonte Fitzgerald. Lynch and Fitzgerald had to sit out last season per NCAA rules because they haven't graduated yet.
