Aitkin County Hit Hard By Severe Storms

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – Residents in parts of northern Minnesota are cleaning up Tuesday after severe storms swept through the area late Monday night.

The Aitkin County Sheriff's Office said that the area of McGregor was hit hard, particularly the Eagle Point Camp Ground on Big Sandy Lake. Authorities said significant straight line winds toppled several trees and downed power lines.

Nobody has been seriously hurt as a result of the storms, but thousands are without power.

Authorities said nearly 12,000 customers with Lake County Power are without power, and another 700 Mille Lacs Energy Cooperative customers were also waiting for their service to be restored.

The sheriff's office said one fifth-wheel motor home was hit by a tree, trapping people inside who had to be cut out at about 1 a.m.
