Ahead Of Home Opener, St. Paul Saints Name Their Pig

ST. PAUL, Minn. (WCCO) -- The city of St. Paul is getting ready for the Saints home opener in its new ballpark Thursday night.

Seats for the 7 p.m. game are sold out, but walk-up tickets are still available for the first St. Paul Saints game at CHS Field. Those tickets will cost $5 for the grassy area in the outfield and $7 for the standing-only porch.

The Saints will take on the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks.

Each year for the past 22 seasons, the Saints have had a pig mascot. And each year it comes with a unique name. Owner Mike Veeck announced Wednesday that this year's pig is named Pablo Pigasso. The name was selected out of 1,400 entries for the Name the Pig Contest put on by the St. Paul Pioneer Press.

It was named because the new ballpark is considered a masterpiece. Karl Norton of West St. Paul came up with the name and will be honored with a prize pack as well as being honored at a Saints game during the season.
