Police Give All Clear In Afton Standoff

AFTON, Minn. (WCCO) -- A man has been taken into custody after a standoff with police in Denmark Township.

According to the Washington County Sheriff's Office, deputies responded to a disturbance call at a home near Afton and began to assist others out of the residence. During the evacuation, an officer said a man fired a gun.

Initial reports said the man fled into the woods, and was located shortly after. Police say after ongoing negotiations, the man has been transported to the Washington County Jail.

Authorities issued a warning around 5 p.m. to residents near the area to stay in their homes, and at 9 p.m., said the situation was no longer a threat to public safety.
