After Sex Shop Field Trip, School Loses More Students

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) - A Minneapolis private school is losing more students after reports of a field trip to a sex shop.

Parents say eight of Gaia Democratic School's 25 students have left.

The school took about a dozen students to Smitten Kitten as a part of a sex education class field trip.

Parents say they were told their children would be visiting a sex shop.

Lynn Floyd pulled his three children from the school.

Although he supports the school's philosophy of children being allowed to learn on their own, he said taking his kids to an adult store without his permission shattered his trust.

"I regret the atmosphere they were in," Floyd said. "As a parent, you have to ask those hard questions and, at the end of the day, I say, 'Clearly we would not have put them there if we had any inkling that this was going to happen.'"

Gaia's board of directors sent a letter to parents supporting the decision to take the children to Smitten Kitten.

A meeting is planned next week for parents and administrators to talk about the issue.
