After Major Cheese Heists, Wis. Investigators Are Looking For Connections

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – Thieves stole thousands of dollars' worth of cheese in Wisconsin, and investigators are not laughing.

Police say someone stole 40,000 pounds of Parmesan from a storage facility in Marshfield, Wisconsin earlier this month.

Lt. Darren Larson with Marshfield police says the pilfered Parmesan came from a cheese producer in Le Sueur, Minnesota.

"Approximately $90,000 worth of Parmesan," he said.

It was the second major cheese heist in Dairy Country this month.

A week later, a trailer scheduled to deliver $70,000 worth of locally-made cheddar and other cheeses was taken from Germantown, Wisconsin.

Hours later authorities found the trailer, but no cheddar.

Police are trying to figure out if the same cheese capers are behind both incidents.

The cheese stolen from the Germantown incident was recovered in Milwaukee over the weekend.
