Activists For Sunday Liquor Sales Hold Fundraiser With St. Paddy's Day Concert
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Some proud beer drinkers took a rather festive approach Monday to the legislative process.
The group Minnesota Beer Activists is trying to raise money to push for alcohol sales on Sunday. Several bands offered to play at First Avenue in downtown Minneapolis in support of the push in a four-hour concert on St. Patrick's Day night.
The group says they have little money, so they chose a big night for drinking beer to try and raise some.
"We can't get everybody to go to the Capitol. That's not gonna work," said Andrew Schitt, who is with the beer activists. "These people all have jobs, so let's take a day when people are gonna go out and have a few beers and make it our day."
Opponents say selling liquor on Sundays would take away a day of rest for workers, and that business on Friday and Saturday would slow down.
Traditionally, the bill has not come close to passing. There are several versions being proposed this year.
