Accomplish With Kylie: Secondhand Hounds

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – Rachel Mairose started Secondhand Hounds in 2009.

"So far we've adopted almost 8,000 dogs out since 2009," Mairose said.

They take dogs out of high risk shelters in other states and place them in foster homes in Minnesota.

"We place them in foster homes where they live, are spoiled rotten and treated like they're a family pet until they find their adoptive homes," Mairose said.

And there are lots of puppies this time of year.

"A lot of shelters will euthanize pregnant dogs or newborn puppies, it's just really tragic," Mairose said.

It's life-saving for the puppies and fun for the foster homes as well.

"It's a great way if you can't own a pet right now, but you love pets and want to have one temporarily," Mairose said. "You're saving a life, there's nothing better than that.

If you're interested in getting involved, Secondhand Hounds will help you get set up to be a foster parent.

They also have opportunities to help out at their office, which does also include "socializing" puppies.
