Abeler Says He'll Take Weekend To Decide On Senate

ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) — State Rep. Jim Abeler says he'll take the weekend to decide whether to press forward in the Minnesota Senate race or bow out.

Abeler left a primary campaign on the table. But he says Mike McFadden's endorsement win "raises the bar" and would complicate a bid. Filing for the office closes Tuesday.

McFadden, a first-time candidate, prevailed at the Republican state convention in Rochester. His victory knocked out several candidates who pledged to abide by the endorsement.

The win put him in prime position to challenge Democratic Sen. Al Franken this November.
