AAP Issues New Guidelines For Flu Shots

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – A recent statement made by the American Academy of Pediatrics said that all children and health care workers should get flu shots.

In past years, about 90 percent of children who died from the flu were unvaccinated.

Health officials said being immunized significantly reduces the risk of being hospitalized due to the flu and can help protect other family members.

The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends that annual flu shots should be given to anyone 6 months of age and older.  They also recommend that kids aged 6 months to 8 years get two doses of the vaccine this flu season if they have received fewer than two doses before July 2015.
