AAA: 41.9M Americans Expected To Travel For Fourth Of July

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – Roughly 41.9 million Americans are expected to travel 50 miles or more from their homes this Independence Day, according to AAA.

AAA said this is up .7 percent from 2014 and the most Fourth of July travelers since 2007.

A strengthening economy, rising employment levels and low gas prices are cited as reasons for the increase in travel.

According to AAA, road trips remain the most popular as 85 percent of travelers will be driving to their destination. Seven percent are expected to fly and seven percent will use other transportation.

The Independence Day travel period is defined as July1 through July 5.
