The State Patrol says the crash happened just after noon on the interstate's westbound lanes, near Monticello.

Two SUVs collided, and one of them, a Ford Explorer, rolled onto the shoulder.

The driver of the Explorer, Rachel Helland, of New London, suffered life-threatening injuries.

Her passenger, 21-year-old Brennon Kampsen, of New London, was also hurt, but not as badly.

Neither of them were wearing seat belts, the patrol says. Both were brought to Twin Cities hospitals for treatment.

No one in the other SUV, a Nissan Murano, was injured.

After the crash, the westbound lanes of the interstate were reduced to one lane for about an hour and a half.
