8-Year-Old Girl Raises Money Ahead Of Walk For Animals

MAPLE GROVE, Minn. (WCCO) -- Next Saturday is the "Get Your Wag On" Walk for Animals for the Animal Humane Society. One little girl chose a unique way to raise money for it Sunday.

At just 8 years old, Leah held an ice cream social in her family's garage Sunday afternoon, hoping to raise some last-minute money for the walk. WCCO's Rachel Slavik and Mike Binkley will help kickoff the event this coming Saturday.

Young Leah says animals are very important to her.

"I love puppies, dogs and hampsters and a lot of animals need homes," Leah said.

The 41st annual Walk for Animals is next Saturday, May 2. Money raised will go toward providing medical treatments, behavior programs and other care to nearly 24,000 animals.
