79-Year-Old New Prague Man Hit And Killed By Car While Checking Mail

NEW PRAGUE, Minn. (WCCO) -- A 79-year-old man is dead after he was hit by a car while checking his mail in Lanesburgh Township, according to a report from the Le Sueur County Sheriff's Office.

Police say Joseph Francis Tikalsky was checking his mail at around 7:30 a.m. on Wednesday on County Road 29, near 1st Avenue, when an eastbound vehicle struck him in or near the lane of traffic. When first responders arrived at the scene, they declared Tikalsky dead.

Investigators believe the morning's dark and rainy conditions played a role in the crash, but say the 47-year-old driver may have been distracted.

The Le Sueur County Sheriff's Office and Minnesota State Patrol are investigating.
