74-Year-Old Man Dead After Van Hit By 81-Year-Old

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) - A 74-year-old Oronoco, Minnesota, man died Monday in a crash in St. Croix County after his van rolled onto its roof.

Gordon Ellis Cariveau's Ford Econoline van was struck by an 81-year-old Wisconsin man who, a witness said, ran a stop sign.

Cariveau was driving southbound on Highway 65 in the town of Kinnickinnic when he was hit by a 2009 Ford Edge driven by James E. Peuse, of Eau Claire, Wisconsin, according to the St. Croix County Shefiff's Office.

Cariveau's van entered a ditch on the side of the highway and rolled onto its roof, coming to rest in a field.

Roberts Fire and Rescue removed Cariveau from the van and he was taken to Hudson Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

A 72-year-old passenger in Cariveau's van and a 78-year-old passenger in Peuse's car were hospitalized with minor injuries. All four were wearing seatbelts.

The St. Croix County Shefiff's Office is investigating the incident.
