ST. CLOUD, Minn. (AP) — A sixth-grader from Hennepin County Home Schools has won a statewide geography bee, earning an all-expense-paid trip to Washington, D.C., for next month's national finals.

Lucas Eggers took top honors Friday in the state-level 2014 Geographic Bee at St. Cloud State University. The event is organized by the National Geographic Society.

Eggers wins $100, and he'll also represent Minnesota at the national finals May 19-21. First prize will be a $50,000 college scholarship, plus a free trip for two to the Galapagos Islands.

The second- and third-place winners will receive college scholarships worth $25,000 and $10,000, respectively.

The competition was open to students between fourth and eighth grade.
