64 Years Ago, MN Native Charles Schulz Debuts 'Peanuts'

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Happy Birthday, Charlie Brown, er, "Peanuts" gang! Yes, the iconic comic strip, "Peanuts," created by Charles Schulz, debuted on this day, 64 years ago.

Schulz, who was born in Minneapolis but grew up in St. Paul, kicked the comic strip off with a bit of dark humor, paving the way for tens of thousands of comic strips to follow.

Since then, the "Peanuts" gang has been published in more than 2,500 newspapers, 75 countries and in 21 languages.
