6 People Thrown From Boat Into Minnesota River

MANKATO, Minn. (AP) — Authorities in south-central Minnesota say six people including two children were thrown overboard from a boat on the Minnesota River.

The Nicollet County sheriff's office was notified of the accident north of Mankato around 12:45 a.m. Saturday.

The four adults and two children — ages 5 years old and 4 months old — were on a 16-foot boat that struck a partially submerged tree in the water. The boat capsized, throwing everyone overboard.

The boat's occupants were separated before they were able to reach shore and call for help. No one apparently was wearing a life jacket.

Authorities say the baby was taken to a Mankato hospital. No one else needed to be treated for any injuries.

The call for help came in about 45 minutes after the accident.
