It's winter in Minnesota, which means there will inevitably be snow at some point.
Every year, Minnesotans grumble about the white stuff and buckle down to prepare for the long six months ahead.
But this year, things have been a bit different.
The balmy weather has Minnesotans feeling sunny, and dreading the snow even more. So much so, that when most of the state saw its first measurable snow Monday many were left in a foul mood.
But while it may snarl traffic, ruin shoes and freeze pipes, it also is a basis for a number of beloved winter activities.
Here are just a few Minnesota pastimes that cannot be accomplished without a little bit of snow.
Snowball Fights
What is winter without a friendly snowball fight? Or at the very least, a formidable fort in which to store the frozen balls and hide behind.

Sure, you can make fake snow to ride on. But everyone knows the real stuff is the best.

True, snow isn't a necessity for this activity. However, the addition of snow makes the hunt that much more enjoyable.

Last year when it snowed, the Gophers were left in a pickle as their stands were completely covered.
In order to get it cleaned in time, the University of Minnesota offered to pay people $10 an hour to shovel.
Thus far, 2015 hasn't seen any measurable snow requiring removal.
But no snow means no money.
