3M launches shipping materials made from recycled products

MAPLEWOOD, Minn. — It's often called the most wonderful time of the year -- but it can also be the most wasteful.

According to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, plastic and packaging waste make up nearly one third of our yearly trash.

"What can we do in product development to make better decisions and ultimately create better solutions for our consumers," Scotch Brand Marketing Communications Supervisor Brandi Machus said.

To do that, 3M is thinking outside the box, literally. It's released PACkT by Scotch, a line of eco-friendly and sustainable mail room essentials.

"We're a heritage brand, we've been here for a long time. I think there is just this fun and magic to be had as a brand to continue to evolve and reimagine what we as a brand can stand for," Machus said.

PACkT packaging is made completely of recycled products and 3M uses soy-based ink for all the printing, which makes the material more environment friendly. It gives options to shoppers, shippers and sustainability.

"They don't just look good, but you can really feel good about using them," Machus said.

The line includes everything from packing tape, paper packaging paper, boxes, decorative tapes, packing paper and labels. PACkT is available in most Target stores – or you can buy it online, here.
