36 Years Ago Today: Miracle On Ice In Lake Placid

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Some still regard it as the single greatest moment in American sports history. On this day 36 years ago, the "Miracle on Ice" took place in Lake Placid, New York.

On Feb. 22, 1980, the U.S. Olympic hockey team upset the Soviet Union's in a 4-3 victory.

The U.S. went on to win the gold medal.

Last year, the team reunited in Lake Placid in an event that drew more than 5,000 fans.

The bulk of the team, including coach Herb Brooks, were Minnesotans.
