3 MnDOT Plows Hit On SE Minn. Roads Wednesday Morning

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- At least one person was injured Wednesday morning when three Minnesota Department of Transportation snowplows were rear ended on roads in the southeastern part of the state.

MnDOT officials say the accidents occurred within three hours. Visibility has been an issue on these roads due to windy conditions and light-weight snow.

The first crash happened at about 9 a.m. at Highway 56 and Goodhue County Road 9, resulting in zero injuries.

The Minnesota State Patrol is investigating the second crash, which took place about one hour later on Highway 14 west of Byron. A passenger in the car which hit the MnDOT plow was injured. The plow driver was OK.

And no one was injured in the third rear-end crash, which happened just after 11 a.m. on eastbound Interstate 90, seven miles west of Austin.

MnDOT says more than 100 of their snowplows are on roads in 11 southeastern Minnesota counties Wednesday.

The department asks drivers to be patient, and allow at least five car lengths between them and a snowplow. Drivers should also avoid passing through snow clouds.

Drivers should also keep alert when around snowplows, as they frequently turn or exit roads -- regularly with little warning.
