22-Year-Old Woman Charged In Shootout

LAKE NEBAGAMON, Wis. (AP) — A 22-year-old woman accused of exchanging gunfire with sheriff's deputies in northwestern Wisconsin is facing four felony charges.

Jessica Gehl is charged with three counts of attempted first-degree intentional homicide for a standoff and shootout in Lake Nebagamon last Wednesday. Douglas County sheriff's officials say Gehl got into an argument with her mother and pulled a gun.

The mother fled to a nearby home and called 911. Authorities say when deputies arrived, the woman opened fire on the officers. None were hit.

District Attorney Dan Blank tells WDIO-TV that Gehl was intoxicated and possibly high on medication at the time of the incident. A criminal complaint says deputies shot Gehl in the hip after she opened fire. She was taken to a Duluth, Minnesota hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Court records do not list a defense attorney.
