2016 Sees Fewer Speeding Tickets In High Enforcement Period

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – State officials say about 3,000 fewer speeding citations were given out this year during a two-week period of enhanced enforcement.

The Department of Public Safety says that between July 8 and July 22, law enforcement agencies across the state ticketed 13,410 people for speeding. That number is down about 20 percent, from 16,410 tickets given out over the same period in 2015.

Officials said one person this year in Rosemount was ticketed after being clocked going 120 mph. They added that one excuse they heard for speeding last month was that a driver had "to get to McDonald's before it closed."
