2015 Governor's Opener Set For Lake Vermilion Area

NISSWA, Minn. (AP) — The 2015 Governor's Fishing Opener will be held in the Lake Vermilion area of northeastern Minnesota.

Explore Minnesota Tourism says the Lake Vermilion Resort Association will host the annual event on May 7-10, 2015. The headquarters will be Fortune Bay Resort, which is owned and operated by the Bois Forte (boys fort) Band of Chippewa. Lake Vermilion also hosted the governor's opener in 2005.

Dayton didn't catch anything while fishing on Gull Lake for this year's opener. His guide, Ray Gildow, tells the Star Tribune they missed four or five fish Saturday. He says they had a good time, but the cold water and late spawning apparently made the walleyes tight-lipped.

Lt. Gov Yvonne Prettner Solon had better luck. She caught four walleyes.
