20-Year-Old Drowns In St. Croix River

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) - A 20-year-old man from rural Chisago County is dead after an apparent drowning Tuesday in the St. Croix River.

According to the Chisago County Sheriff's Office, around 3:45 p.m. Rico Marice Davis swam out into a deep portion of the St. Croix River that measured roughly eight feet. He was with friends about three miles northwest of Nevers Dam.

He started to struggle and went underwater. His friends were unable to bring him to a shallower part of the river before he became unresponsive.

His friends started CPR and rescuers tried to resuscitate him. Life-saving efforts were called off at 4:42 p.m.

The Midwest Medical Examiner's Office is investigating the apparent drowning.
