2-Time Convicted Sex Offender Guilty Of Child Porn Charges
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- It took a jury less than two hours Thursday to convict a two-time convicted sex offender of producing and distributing child pornography.
The United States Attorney's Office says 52-year-old Rex Lee Furman, of Federal Dam, was convicted after a three-day trial of 13 counts of producing child porn, two counts of distributing it and one count each of receipt of child porn, possession of child porn and committing a felony while required to register as a sex offender.
The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension and Minneapolis police separately and independently investigated Furman in 2013 after finding child porn videos were being shared from his IP address using peer-to-peer software.
The BCA executed a search warrant at Furman's Federal Dam home in early 2014, where they found hundreds of images and videos of prepubescent children in sex acts with adults. Furman also told investigators at the time that produced pornographic images of two girls who were in his care at the time.
Furman was convicted in 1981 and 1999 of sexually abusing young girls that were in his care. His 1999 conviction resulted in Furman being required to register as a sex offender until 2021.
