2 Killed In Car-SUV Crash In Itasca County

DEER RIVER, Minn. (AP/WCCO) — The Minnesota State Patrol says two people are dead after a broadside collision between a car and a sport utility vehicle in northern Minnesota.

The crash happened about 6:45 a.m. Tuesday in Itasca County. The patrol says both vehicles were southbound on Minnesota Highway 46 when a Chevrolet Camaro, driven by 27-year-old Cory J. Jones, of Cass Lake,  pulled onto the shoulder and started making a U-turn. A Chevy Trailblazer, driven by 29-year-old Derrick L. Cloud, of Cass Lake, struck the Jones' driver's side, and both vehicles ended in the ditch.

Jones and his passenger, 21-year-old Jaclyn G. Howard, of Deer River, were killed. Cloud suffered non-life threatening injuries.
