2 Killed, 1 Seriously Injured In Icy Rice Co. Crash

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- The Minnesota State Patrol says two people are dead and one is seriously injured after the car they were in lost control and crossed into oncoming traffic on an icy Rice County highway Tuesday morning.

Shortly before 6 a.m., a 2006 Saturn Ion was traveling westbound on Highway 21 near County Road 61 when it lost control and crossed the center line and was broadsided by a 2002 Pontiac Grand Am.

The driver of the Saturn, identified as 35-year-old Abdirahman Abdi of Noel, Missouri, was killed in the crash. A passenger, 34-year-old Said Abdi of Kansas City, Missouri, was also killed. Another passenger, 24-year-old Rahma Ibrahim of Schuyler, Nebraska, suffered serious injuries.

The driver of the Pontiac, 37-year-old Justin Francis of St. Peter, suffered no apparent injuries.
