2 Injured After Driver Fell Asleep At Wheel In Stearns Co.

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – Two people were injured after a driver fell asleep at the wheel in Stearns County Tuesday night.

According to the Stearns County Sheriff's Office, at 11:26 p.m. police responded to a call of a one-vehicle crash on County Road 17, just east of Sunset Beach Road in Millwood Township.

Upon arrival, officers found a car had gone off the road and struck several trees.

Police said the driver, 71-year-old Russell Roman Sieben, of Melrose, was traveling westbound on County Road 17 when he fell asleep at the wheel. Sieben then drove off the road and hit several trees.

Sieben and his passenger, 70-year-old Mary Jane Sieben, also of Melrose, were taken to Centra Care Hospital. They were later airlifted to St. Cloud hospital.

The extent of their injuries is unknown at this time.

Police said alcohol was not a factor in the crash. The exact cause is still under investigation.
