Democrat Tim Walz Re-Elected In 1st Congressional District

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- U.S. Rep. Tim Walz (D-Mankato) has again won re-election in Minnesota's 1st Congressional District.

Walz defeated republican challenger Jim Hagedorn of Blue Earth, MN. This is the second time the two have faced each other in an election. Walz beat Hagedorn by nearly 10 points in 2014.

Walz is a top Democrat in the House on veterans and agricultural issues. He was first elected to Congress in 2006.

Hagedorn comes from a political family — his father represented the area in Congress from 1975 until 1983.

The 1st Congressional District is primarily a rural district that encompasses the entire southern border of Minnesota.
