1934 Teamsters Strike Memorialized In Minneapolis

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- A memorial plaque commemorating the 1934 Teamsters Strike in Minneapolis was unveiled Saturday.

Historians call that strike one of the watershed moments in the history of the American labor movement.

Commercial drivers and business owners clashed for months before the so-called "Bloody Friday" clash on July 20, 1934. That's when teamsters and police fought downtown. Violence broke out, and 67 strikers were shot, killing two of them.

St. Cloud State University professor Keith Christensen designed the memorial, which sits on the Sherwin-Williams Paint Company building downtown.
