1 Person Dead In Washington Co. Rollover

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – One person has died after a rollover car accident in Washington County late Tuesday evening.

According to the accident report, 24-year-old John W. Schmidt, of North St. Paul, was traveling westbound on Highway 96 toward Kimbro Avenue N. when he went around a curve and into oncoming traffic.

Schmidt then overcorrected and his car crossed the westbound traffic lanes and went into a ditch.

The Washington County Sheriff's Office said the car slid sideways and rolled down into the ditch, striking a tree.

Police said Schmidt died due to injuries sustained in the accident.

The Washington County Sheriff's Office has not said whether alcohol was related.
