1 Dead In Stabbing In South St. Paul

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – A man is dead after an apparent argument turned violent in South St. Paul early Wednesday morning.

According to the South St. Paul Police Department, at around 2 a.m. officers responded to a report of an assault in the 400 block of 4th Avenue South.

Upon arrival, police found an adult man in the front yard of a home who had been stabbed in his upper torso.

First responders administered CPR, but their efforts were unsuccessful. The victim died on the scene.

Police said they found a male acquaintance of the victim a short distance away. Thirty-year-old Anthony Bruce Bartz, of West St. Paul, is now in custody  at the Dakota County Jail on probable cause second-degree murder.

From all indications, investigators said this appears to be an isolated incident and they don't believe the community is in any danger.

The identity of the victim has not been released pending family notification.

The incident is currently under investigation. The BCA is assisting and anyone with information is asked to call the South St. Paul Police Department at 651-554-3300.
