1 Dead After Shootout With Police At RV Park

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension is investigating an officer-involved shooting that left a man dead at a trailer park in St. Anthony Village.

Police were called to a home at Lowry Grove around 10 p.m. Thursday night, after neighbors reported hearing gun shots.

When officers arrived on scene, they were directed to a specific mobile home, where a man came outside with a gun and started shooting.

The BCA says three members of the East Metro SWAT Team -- all officers with the Roseville Police Department-- fired their weapons, and the man was killed.

Police say the man was the only person inside the home. They are still investigating what led to the shooting and admit, they're pretty puzzled by what made him start shooting.

Officials say the public is not at risk and police are not looking for any other suspects.

The BCA is now handling the investigation. The man has not yet been identified by police.

No officers were injured in the incident, which lasted several hours.

One man, who lives at Lowry Grove, said he was a bit shaken by the entire incident.

"People are getting crazier, it seems to happen more and more every day," said Devin Meyer, who moved into Lowry Grove just a few months ago. "You could hear yelling, some dogs barking, couple shots went off, about eight shots, and all went quiet for about 15 minutes. Then we got this six-hour mess."

Police initially believed there were more people inside the home who were being held at gunpoint. It took six hours until officers realized there was no one else inside.

"Every town's got their problem areas," Meyer said. "Really, this is not a common occurrence."

Meyer grew up in northeast Minneapolis and says last night's shooting does not give him second thoughts about living in St. Anthony.

"I've always loved it, it's a good part of town. It really is," he said.
