1 Dead, 3 Injured In Broadside Crash In Wadena Co.

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – One person is dead after a broadside crash in Wadena County Thursday evening.

According to the Minnesota State Patrol, just before 7 p.m. 25-year-old Don R. Poplin, of Hewitt, was traveling north on Highway 71 near the intersection at Bottemiller Drive. At the same time 56-year-old Charles E. Denny, of Staples, was stopped in the left turn lane of south Highway 71, waiting to turn left onto Bottemiller Drive.

Denny then turned in front of Poplin at the last second, and Poplin broadsided Denny.

Poplin's car rolled, coming to rest in a ditch.

Denny's passenger, 23-year-old Adam J. Denny of Little Falls, died on the scene.

Denny, Poplin and Poplin's passenger, 23-year-old Joshua S. Farber of Frazee, were taken to the Tri-County hospital. All suffered non-life threatening injuries.

The accident is currently under investigation.
