1 Dead, 3 Hospitalized After Weekend Overdoses In Beltrami Co.

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – Officials in northern Minnesota say one person died and three people were hospitalized over the weekend after overdosing on heroin.

The Beltrami County Sheriff's Office said deputies tried to perform lifesaving measures on 39-year-old Adrian Dunn after he was found unresponsive Saturday in a Bemidji apartment. He was later pronounced dead at a nearby hospital.

Dunn's exact cause of death remains unclear. A chemical analysis will conclude if his death was the result of an overdose of heroin cut with other substances or a purer form of opiate.

Details on the other weekend overdose cases were not given.

Investigators say they are seeking the source of the heroin involved in the overdoses.

Anyone with information on distribution in the community is asked to call the sheriff's office at 318-333-9111.

The sheriff's office also advised residents that if their loved ones are using heroin, they need to call for help if their loved ones have breathing difficulties, become incoherent or lose consciousness while using.

Last year, state legislators passed a law allowing first responders in Minnesota to carry Narcan, a drug that counteracts an opiate overdose.
