1 Dead, 2 Injured After Overnight Shooting In Minneapolis

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – Police in Minneapolis say an early Sunday morning shooting on the city's north side left two people injured and one man dead.

The Minneapolis Police Department says the shooting happened shortly before 4 a.m. near the intersection of Emerson and West Broadway avenues after an argument turned violent.

Responding officers found a man dead in parking lot. They learned shortly after that two others had arrived at an area hospital with non-life-threatening gunshot wounds.

No arrests have been made.

Family members identified the man killed as 24-year-old Andre Riley. They said he leaves behind a fiancee and a baby girl. They gathered around the crime scene to mourn on Sunday.

"I just want my nephew back, because this is senseless," said Taylor Robinson, Riley's aunt. "You all killed an innocent person, my nephew didn't deserve this, he didn't deserve to go out like this."

The family says they also lost another young relative to a shooting last week.

As family and friends gathered next to the crime scene Sunday morning, Shiloh Temple minister Arnetta Philips gave an impassioned speech. She called for stricter gun control and better parenting to prevent youth from getting into trouble.

"Stop allowing them to disgrace the north side," Philips, who lost her grandson to violence six years ago, said. "We are not bad people."

Police say officers are talking with people who were in the area when the shooting happened. Throughout the weekend, the talks will continue, police say, as officers urge residents to talk freely with investigators.

Anyone with information on the shooting is asked to call police at 612-692-8477 or call CrimeStoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
