1 Arrested In Minneapolis' 1st Homicide Of 2014

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- A 24-year-old man has been arrested in Minneapolis' first homicide of 2014, according to Minneapolis Police.

On Saturday evening, a victim of a Jan. 23, 2014 shooting in south Minneapolis succumbed to his injuries. The death marked the City's first homicide of 2014.

At 9:17 p.m. on the day of the incident, Minneapolis Police were dispatched to the area of 45th Street East and 1st Avenue South on the report of gunfire and a man limping from the area. Police arrived shortly after, but could not find anyone involved.

Soon after, the Minnesota State Patrol located the man suffering from a gunshot wound to his lower leg. He told authorities he was shot near the initial gunshot report.

The victim was then taken to the Hennepin County Medical Center and later died.

On Sunday, homicide investigators arrested Brandon Bell in connection to the shooting. He's currently in custody at the Hennepin County Adult Detention Center.

The Hennepin County Medical Examiner is expected to release the identity of the victim, and the nature and cause of death.
