NEXT Weather Alert: Another dose of dangerous cold Friday morning
NEXT Weather Alert Factors:
- Likely coldest night this season
- Dangerous cold with wind
- Frostbite in under 10 minutes
MINNEAPOLIS -- A NEXT Weather Alert has been issued due to dangerous temperatures, which have brought us into one of the coldest overnights so far this season.
As of 5 a.m., temperatures reached 12 degrees below zero, which ties it for the coldest night of the year with Dec. 23.
The National Weather Service has issued a widespread wind chill advisory through Friday at 9 a.m. -- including the Twin Cities and western Wisconsin -- due to temps that in some places feel as cold as -30.
The biggest concern is in the northeastern corner of Minnesota, where it feel as cold as -40 to -50. The region is under a wind chill warning. Frostbite can set in on exposed skin in between five to 10 minutes in these conditions.
WCCO meteorologist Riley O'Connor says highs will only be in the single digits Friday. But you won't have to wait too long for a change. We warm into the weekend with highs around 30 both days, with a bit more sunshine. Both days will be breezy.
It stays mild next week. We could see a light mix on Monday and again Wednesday night into Thursday. And more good news for mild-temp lovers -- the models are showing that we will mostly be in the 30s through next weekend.
