DEERFIELD BEACH (CBSMiami) --  A person driving the wrong way on I-95 hit several cars on Saturday night in Deerfield Beach.

Florida Highway Patrol said the person, who according to the police report is from the United Kingdom,  was driving  a Ford Escape was traveling North in the southbound lanes just after 8:00 p.m.

That's when the driver collided with a Honda Odyssey van, sideswiping its left side.

The driver of the Honda tried to avoid the car by changing lanes but as a result sideswiped a tractor trailer in another lane.

Troopers said the driver of the Ford Escape continued heading North and was involved in another crash. This time it was between three other vehicles.

Due to the crashes, a total of seven people were taken to North Broward Medical Center for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.

Authorities closed the Hillsboro Road exit for four hours after the crashes but later reopened it.
