MIAMI (CBSMiami) - Now that the worst of the so-called bomb cyclone has passed, airports up and down the East Coast are getting back to business, after thousands of cancellations Thursday

But that doesn't mean South Florida travelers are trouble-free.

Passengers at Miami International Airport and Fort Lauderdale Hollywood International Airport still ran into delays and cancellations Friday.

Felipe lambert Faria's FLL flight to New York was canceled and he waited all afternoon to try to fly standby on crowded Delta flights.

"We know it's the airport and weather but we are hoping they can do something for us," he said.

Passengers at Miami International Airport waited in long lines early Friday, still feeling the effects of that winter blast up North

"The weather is crazy, I was originally scheduled to fly through Philadelphia but that's been closed, canceled completely, rescheduled," said passenger Alex Abi-Najm, who said he'd been re-routed three times in the process of trying to get home to Washington, D.C.

At Miami International, nearly 30 flights were taken off the books Friday, mainly to destinations in the northeast.

American Airlines, which has a major hub in Miami, said travelers can expect delays and cancellations as they begin the process of resuming operations throughout the northeast. This includes moving aircraft to airports that were previously closed. They canceled more than 375 flights on Friday.

Back at FLL Lindsay Tropea found her flight to New York was delayed and that made her miss her connector to get back to England with her son.

She can't fly back until Monday which means her son will miss the first day of school after the break.

"We will go back and enjoy the hotel," she said.
