Woman Fatally Shot Near Preschool In NW Miami Dade

MIAMI (CBSMiami) – The search is on for a gunman who shot and killed a woman shot behind a Miami-Dade preschool.

Miami-Dade police spokesman Det. Roy Rutland said it began as a domestic fight between the woman and a man in house at 119th Street and 22nd Court, a few blocks away from The Academy of Knowledge Pre-School.

The shooting happened near a preschool at 2240 NW 119 Street in Miami.

As the argument escalated the woman, identified by police as 33-year-old Michelle Wilcox, took off running in fear for her life, the man on her heels. At one point he pulled a gun and fired at her. She was hit and her body collapsed in the grass by the day care.

The school went on "lock down" and called parents to come and pick up their children early.

Rutland said the relationship between the man and woman is unknown as is what the argument was about that led up to the shooting.
