Woman Pleads Guilty To Deadly Wrong Way Crash

MIAMI (CBSMiami) - A woman who caused a deadly wrong way crash on I-95 in which a motorcyclist was killed has accepted a plea deal from prosecutors.

On Wednesday. Clarissa Vargas entered a guilty plea to DUI manslaughter and was sentenced to two years in prison.

The accident happened July 19th, 2014. Vargas was heading north in the southbound lanes of I-95 near the Dolphin Expressway when she slammed into a motorcycle driven by 41-year old Norman Mello. On impact, Mello went through the windshield of Vargas' car and was pinned in the back seat of her car. He died on the scene.

Vargas suffered serious injuries in the crash.

Carlos Pereira, 61, who was driving a Dodge Ram in the same lane as Vargas, but heading south, spotted Vargas' car and swerved to try to avoid a head-on-collision.

Pereira ended up getting sideswiped on the left side by Vargas' car. Pereira suffered minor injuries in the crash.
